Nokia offers Microsoft email on smartphones

Nokia, the world's No. 1 cell phone maker, announced Wednesday that it made a deal with Microsoft to enable Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync on 80 million Nokia phones.

Microsoft ActiveSync allows employees with Nokia phones equipped with the latest edition of S60 software to access their e-mail, contacts, calendar, company directory and other information through their mobile phones.

This makes Nokia more competitive with Canada's Research In Motion Ltd., the maker of the popular BlackBerry handsets.
